BioIt's our last day of holiday and now we begin the daily living in Australia. We will soon see our new home for the next 12 months outside of Melbourne in Berwick. I'm excited and nervous about the new job. It will be a huge learning curve. lots to read and prepare before I begin teaching at Hillsmeade Primary School. Two of my exchange partner's friends will be picking us up at the Melbourne airport which 1:30 hours away from Berwick. That is so kind! And we have a dinner invitation on Saturday night at one of my friends, Pam's, dear friend Evelyn's home which is in a suburb of Melbourne. Looking forward to meeting new friends. It will make missing home, family and friends, more bearable.
Unfortunately Norm is still in pain with no improvement at all. The fact that he is waiting to see a doctor in Melbourne for consistent care has made his medical issue a non medical emergency therefore the RBC/Aetna insurance refuses to pay. Very disappointing and worrisome that we may have to pay for tests, including possible MRI or cat scans. We will get through it.
The last couple of days we laid low and rested by visiting sites close the hotel.
We walked to the QVB building, a gorgeous late 19th century building with mosaic tiled floors, domed stained glass windows and old fashioned gated lifts.
It has designer shops, tea houses and pastry shops.
We had a nice brekky overlooking busy George street and window shopped. Norm went back to the hotel to soak in a the hot tub and I explored. Norm's selection for dinner was Madusa, a Greek restaurant close to us. It was rated as 4th best on Tripadvisor. It was a delicious feast of mezzas. It was nice chatting with one if the owners from Greece. He still has a home and restaurant there and said that the all inclusive hotels are killing the small restaurant businesses.
The last day, we went back to our first and favourite here...The Sydney Fish Market!
Now we were experts and knew how to manoeuvre in that busy and hectic setting. Norm had sashimi and I had crab and oysters while seagulls and Australian white Ibis were waiting for crumbs to fall or for humans to take their eyes off their food for them to swoop in. We had seen a seagull do just that at the brekky restaurant by the opera house. One grabbed a full fried egg with yolk dripping over people's heads.
Norm came back home and I explored but it wasn't as much fun doing it alone knowing Norm was at hotel. I went back and we lounged by the pool on the 10th for the afternoon.
Our last dinner and excessive eating was at the Sydney Tower overlooking city. The food was the worst we had in our stay in Australia but it had a magnificent view!
It's 3 am.We are going to fly out at 6:30 am to one of the hottest places in Australia. The temperature is supposed to drop by 20° to 20°C and the meteorologist said...It will be cold. :-)
Getting Wi-Fi will be our first priority as well as learning how to drive a new car on the left side the road. Hope you are all well. Thanks for the emails. It's nice to hear how you're doing. We miss you.
